It's about time travel apparently. Although since the original Beastmaster was set in a fantasy world as far as I remember, time travel should really be dimension travel. Typically marketing execs thought by having Dar transported to the modern age they wouldn't have to create any expensive sets and could just have him running round the streets near the studio. The lack of budget compared to the original really shows at times, they couldn't even afford the black paint this time so the tiger is it's usual undyed colour. Anyway, like all fantasy films involving time/dimension travel (Masters of the Universe, Highlander 2 etc) it's awful.
