This is a great film! Whilst obviously lower on budget than Conan, Beastmaster has a fairly good production values and a decent soundtrack. Although the basic plot is the same old revenge for slaughter of family/propechy malarky, it is filmed in such a way to keep the viewer entertained. Marc Singer is great as Dar, although his stances look to be somewhat false at time and have even lead to the phrase "Pulling a Marc Singer", which is to suck one's belly in and puff out ones chest in an effort to look fitter and harder than you are.

The animals are cool, the bad guy is suitably evil and the damsel in distress is suitably shagable. This all makes for a decent, enjoyable romp that should under no circumstances be confused with the dreadful Beastmaster 2: the portal of time, which is shit.
