This is the film that started it all off for me and it still occupies a special place in my heart. Admitted it took me a few viewing to get into as I was initially disappointed as it mixed up so much of Conan's written adventures, condtradicting the RE Howard stories in several place. However, after consideration, I realised the cuts had to be made to make the movie effective for it's limited screen time. No splitting a film up into three parts back when this film was made!

The main reason I rate this film so far above the sequel is the choice of the supporting actors, everyone from James Earl Jones to Gerry Lopez fit their given role perfectly!
