Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Review by Jackie

This is my personal favourite of the 3 films, for many reasons but mostly for the interweaving of the heroic journeys of Frodo, Gandalf & Aragorn and one of the most amazing battles I have ever seen on screen. Helm's Deep was just perfect for me. Again all the actors took the chance to deepen their characters and make you care. Mirando Otto was a fiesty Eowyn. Bernard Hill surprised with this very human King Theoden. The CGI of Gollum was an astounding feat of motion capture, I began to care about this creature and forgot it was just a computer creation. Andy Serkis gave his voice and actions to make this charcter real and he is one of the highlights of this movie.

I have many favourite moments but for me the moments when Theoden is putting on his armour standing in the light asking Gamling 'Who am I?' is one of the most moving moments of all. The moment when Gandalf and Eomer ride down the hill with the sun behind them and darkness before them moves me to tears and the music of Howard Shore brings it to an almost spiritual awakening.
