Shrewsbury isn't a big place for tourists it has to be said, there are a few places worth visting in the town itself but the majority of interest such as the UK's 2nd biggest Roman villa and the battlefield seemed to lie outside the town itself good if you have car and are using Shrewsbury as a base, not so good if you've arrived in the town centre by coach as we did!
Shrewsbury has two bridges, one is in England, one in Wales, although we didn't take the opportunity of visting the Welsh side of town! There's an Abbey there where I believe the literay medieval detective "Cadfael" was based. The Abbey was serene and it's silence oppressive until I broke it with an echoing fart.
We had lunch in "Cockinghall Tea Rooms" resaurant, which was a bit too nice, we spent too long in there and consequently didnt get to see as much of the town as we could have. We did visit the specialist shopping hall and had a quick look around the back streets and churches.
There was surprisingly not much about battle exactly 600 years ago, just a flower bed and a mention in the guide. The castle isn't too impressive and is the home of a regimental museum. We didn't go in as there was a wedding service being held in the grounds as we didn't want to intrude.
